IV sedation dentistry offers an excellent way to provide a safe, anxiety-free, dental experience to those who experience dental anxiety. The more comfortable our patients are during their visits, the better they can receive the dental care that they need to keep their teeth and gums healthy. We find that IV sedation dentistry patients become less apprehensive about making and keeping appointments, and sometimes no longer need IV sedation dentistry with subsequent dental visits.
When patients know that they can relax through dental treatment without feeling fearful, patients find the prospect of dental care more appealing. Some of the advantages associated with IV sedation dentistry are:
Anxiety is alleviated
Few side effects
We can accomplish more, reducing the number of visits
Safe and pain-free
IV Sedation dentistry is popular because in most cases the sedative is so remarkably effective that a patient is unable to recall details afterward.
Intravenous sedation is considered a moderate type of sedation. Unlike general anesthesia, which also is delivered intravenously, IV sedation is a form of conscious sedation where the patient is always able to respond to our communication. We administer IV sedation via direct injection into the bloodstream, and the effects are immediate.
Patients will continue to feel sedated when the IV sedatives are withdrawn. This is why we require you to have a designated driver to and from the appointment.
Safety and comfort are two essential aspects of any dental treatment, and IV sedation dentistry satisfies both.
